Landing & Preparation

Landing & Preparation

The inside of the visor filled his world. Scratched plasteel. Breath fogging faintly at the edges.

Vital signs pulsing in the corner of his vision — heart rate elevated but steady. Helix’s calm diagnostics scrolling past. The capsule was small.

Functional. Little room to move even for a man of his training. Cramped.

But protective when it mattered. He was relieved to give the command. “Helix.

Open the hatch. ” The seal hissed. The capsule breathed in the new atmosphere — thick, slow-moving, and strangely warm.

It pressed against his suit in heavy layers and carried a faint, sweet-rot scent that the filters only partially removed. Essential. Without it, the air would cook him.

Kael stepped out, weapon ready, the rectangular pulse carbine humming to life in his grip. He swept the landing zone instinctively. Every direction.

Every shadow. Thorough. Precise.

“Helix. Confirm perimeter. ” “Landing vicinity secure.

No active signatures. Defensive systems arming. ” Shoulders lowered.

A deep breath inside the helmet. Protocols complete. The craft loomed behind him — a dark machine, matte black and unadorned.

Pure function. A military monolith laid on its side. Taller than Kael.

Its longest edge stretched ten times that length. Roughly twelve metres by three metres by three metres — the brutal scale of a heavy container forged for war. Every cubic centimetre optimised.

Munitions. Weaponry. Robotics.

Lethality compressed into brutal efficiency. No beauty. Only purpose.

He mentally assessed the power before him. Strike modules locked together, ready for the trek to the citadel. Pathfinder.

Munitions. Defensive. All of it would reveal its modularity soon enough.

As he stood on the steaming ground of Kethra, a memory surfaced. The night before, aboard The Aegis. The conversation with Elara — his chosen — in the soft lights of the palatial habitat ring.

Her voice, perfectly tuned, asking the question he had answered a thousand times.
